We were saddened to hear that our dear friend and moose brother Steve “Mountain Man” Blevins passed away on Thursday, January 18th, 2018. He was usually the first to greet new guests in the lodge and was always ready and willing to help with any event. We will miss our dear “mountain man”.
The crowd streamed in for dinner and the Hoe Down event held in his honor. The kitchen was slammed and we appreciate everyone who helped out with serving, cooking, and handling the seemingly non-stop pile of dishes. It was heartwarming to see such a great turnout for this event, and we know his family really appreciated seeing the love we all have for our “Mountain Man.”
The fundraiser was extremely successful – with $4,000 going to the family – and we thank everyone who donated baskets and gift cards and all the volunteers who helped with the fundraising aspect for the evening, especially Ruth and Heidi, who kept track of the raffle items as they were won and the auction items as they were sold. It’s events like this when you feel really proud to be a Moose.
We received the following notes from Steve’s daughter, nephew, and brother:
I personally want to thank the Roanoke Moose Lodge in having the celebration on Saturday honoring my dad, Steven Blevins. We truly appreciate everything you did for our family. You guys were great friends to dad and he truly loved going to the moose lodge. Words cannot express our appreciation for each and every one of you guys at the moose lodge. Thank you, Brianna Blevins
I want to take a moment here. On January 18th, 2018 my uncle, Steve Blevins, passed away. In his honor, this past Saturday, on the 27th, a celebration and silent auction was held that was a huge success. I want take this time to thank the Roanoke Moose Lodge 284 for all they did. Eli Blevins
On behalf of the Family I just wanted to say thank you for the love and generosity you showed when this was taken and since then; from the wonderful songs to the hugs, tears, stories and laughs we shared as we remembered Steve and how much he means to us all. He will be greatly missed but with a new body in heaven there will be no more hurt. His memories and smile I will carry forever and as I may have lost a brother and you a dear friend we all have gained an angel watching over us. Thank You once again for everything you’ve done for us and for showing Steve so much love. Jason Blevins
